18th March netlabel release

There are two new releases from the Spirit of Gravity in March:

Memori Yobidashi is a collaboration between electronic producer Jake Smith and sound therapist Ruth Summers. In this eponymous release, they explore the sonority, texture and tone of assorted gongs, bowls and metal percussion through improvisation and electronics. Music to invoke memories known and unknown.

Neural Outage is Geoff Cheesemaster (Noteherder and McCloud) and Karl M V Waugh (The Zero Map, God’s Teeth & The Interstellar Tropics, A Band, Binnsclagg, among others). Using ‘electronic devices and other things’, Tiniest Glimpse was recorded during the brief period of permissible mingling in the late summer of 2020, with the two improvisors in the same acoustic space, and no online software involved.

All sales from these albums will be donated to the Rossi Bar Crowdfunder.

Also available:

A collaboration between Noteherder, aka Chris Parfitt, and I’m Dr Bouyant, aka Tony Rimbaud, entitled The Floating Museum.

During COVID lockdowns, Chris has been exchanging soundfiles with several members of the Spirit of Gravity Collective. This is the result of one of those collaborations, with I’m Dr Buoyant sampling field recordings by Noteherder made over the course of a day at Newhaven Fort to create the album’s essential rhythms and soundspaces.

The album is available for streaming or download here:

A new release by McCloud, aka the collective’s very own Geoff Cheesemaster, The Stars Unfixed. This is a long form piece lasting just over an hour, originally created for the Amass Radiant Heretics broadcast that went out on 20 December – a streaming event for the winter solstice curated by collective member Caleb Madden.

A tribute to one of Spirit of Gravity’s founding fathers, the omnipresent, omniscient, dronemaster extraordinaire minimal impact. Steve recently moved to North Wales where no doubt he will continue to terrify the locals, just as he did in Brighton with his immense supernova-exploding-meets-reverb-uptown vibes.

The tracks presented on minimal effort are the responses of members of the Spirit of Gravity collective to minimal impact’s musical universe.
