The Spirit of Gravity presents the Scope 2026
As part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations, for one night only we present the Spirit of Gravity Arts Lab we call The Scope, this time in the atmospheric Cabaret Room at Presuming Ed’s. The Scope ran from July 2014 to January 2016 at the Caroline of Brunswick, presenting low-key, intimate experimental performances, often one-off projects or ad hoc collaborations.
4Heads: semi-modular, small percussion, bruised uke: a duo
The return of the duo of Dan Powell (Rackets, Nil, Omsk, ad infinitum) and Geoff Cheesemaster (McCloud, Cour’en, Bonce etc). Named after a photograph, 4Heads are Dan on semi-modular synthesiser & small percussion, Geoff on extended Ukulele and effects.

Worn Pots: improvised percussion loops disintegrate into crackles, pops and noise in the bowels of a hybrid modular drone.
Worn pots will perform “Audience Disintegration” with help from the audience: using contact mics and household items to record percussion loops which continually decay and disintegrate before being overdubbed with fresh loops which begin to disintegrate alongside the existing material.
The Spirit of Gravity / SafeHouse Quartet: The Spirit of Gravity meets the SafeHouse Collective for a joint improvisation
The ad hoc collaborations represented by the Spirit of Gravity Quartet and the SafeHouse Wildcard Quartet combine forces for a special joint improvisation. Andrew Greaves (keyboards) and I’m Dr Buoyant (loops and effects) from the Spirit of Gravity join Matt Clark (guitar) and Alison Briggs (cello) from the SafeHouse to perform two pieces, one based on a graphic score, the other a free improvisation.
